The Integrated Cancer Research Group

The Integrated Cancer Research Group is a cross-disciplinary team whose work spans the laboratory sciences, clinical practice and health policy. The aim of the group is to advance cancer research and to improve medical knowledge, clinical practice and patient outcomes in cancer care. In this way the Integrated Cancer Research Group is actively covering the ground from innovation and discovery to application.

 Professor Robyn Ward
Professor Robyn Ward
The Integrated Cancer Research Group is headed by Professor
Robyn Ward. Robyn is the current Professor of Medicine at
Prince of Wales Hospital and the Director of the Area Cancer
Services for the South East and Illawarra Area Health. She is a
medical oncologist and a highly awarded researcher, who has
been active in cancer research in Australia since 1991.
 Professor Phillip Hogg
Professor Philip Hogg
Professor Philip Hogg is the director of the Lowy Cancer
Research Centre's adult cancer research activities.
Professor Hogg has discovered a new way that proteins
work, which has led to the development of two new anti-
cancer drugs that will be tested in clinical trials over the
next two years.
 Professor Levon Khachigian
Professor Levon Khachigian
Professor Khachigian is a molecular biologist from the
Centre for Vascular Research at UNSW who has recently
developed a new class of experimental drug that has the
potential to treat a diverse range of health problems, from
cancer and inflammation through to eye and heart disease.
 Professor Michelle Haber AM
Professor Michelle Haber AM
Professor Haber AM, the Executive Director of CCIA,
was the inaugural scientist employed by CCIA. She heads
the Experimental Therapeutics Program, focusing on
developing new, more effective treatments for childhood
cancer.
 Professor Murray Norris
Professor Murray Norris
Professor Norris, the Deputy Director of CCIA, was one
of the first three scientists to staff CCIA when its research
laboratories opened in 1984. He heads the Molecular
Diagnostics research program, which works on improving
the diagnosis, risk classification and treatment of childhood
cancer through the use of new molecular genetic
technologies.
 Professor Glenn Marshall
Professor Glenn Marshall
Professor Marshall heads the Molecular Carcinogenesis
Program at CCIA. His research is focused on investigating
how cancer first develops i.e. the processes by which
normal cells become cancerous. Professor Marshall also
heads the Centre for Children's Cancer and Blood
