The Lowy Cancer Research Centre will be an Australian first, bringing together childhood and adult cancer research at the one site. Housing up to 400 researchers from UNSW and Children’s Cancer Institute Australia (CCIA) to be one of the largest dedicated cancer research centres in the Southern Hemisphere. Construction of the $100 million building began in November 2007 and is scheduled for completion in October 2009. The building has been designed by Lahz Nimmo Architects in association with Wilson Architects. Design principles One of the key design principles of the building is to ensure the most Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) is achieved. It is hoped that the building will achieve a 5 Green Star Rating in accordance with the Green Building Council of Australia method of evaluation.
