The School of Media, Film and Theatre

The School of Media, Film and Theatre was established in 2005 from the Schools of Media & Communication (founded in 1997) and Theatre, Film and Dance.

The media program examines media in an expansive sense, incorporating contemporary approaches to media with a particular focus on multimedia, network societies and the cultural implications of digital technologies.

The Media School currently offers a Bachelor of Arts (Media and Communications), Bachelor of science (Media and Communications) and from 2005 offers a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Law (BA/LLB) at undergraduate level. At postgraduate level, the School offers an MA in Media Education, and short courses in various aspect of multimedia production. The School also has an active Postgraduate Research program and a rapidly expanding Honours program which includes a production option. There are several well-equipped computer laboratories attached to the School, along with digital video editing facilities.

There are also course relating to media from a variety of disciplinary approaches across the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

The National Institute of Dramatic Arts - NIDA

NIDA (The National Institute of Dramatic Art) is Australia's national training centre for the arts entertainment industry.

NIDA was established to provide excellence in training for entertainment professionals, and the modern NIDA complex contains a dynamic combination of full time training, short courses, corporate performance training, theatre productions, and community events. It houses Australia's largest performing arts library and a broad range of theatre resources.

The Faculty of the Built Environment

The Faculty of the Built Environment incorporates design into many of its undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

The Faculty of the College of Fine Arts

UNSW's College of Fine Arts (COFA) is one of Australia's premier university art and design schools. COFA is located in Paddington, the heartland of Sydney's arts community. Studies in art and design combine creativity with the extensive research and teaching resources of the university.

COFA offers rigorous and exciting studies in the visual arts, design, digital media, art education and art history and theory. These studies are enhanced by experimental research, the latest applications in media and technology, contemporary developments in art and design practise, and through the innovative exhibition program of the University's Ivan Dougherty Gallery , the COFA Students Association's own Kudos Gallery and the COFA Exhibition and Performance Space.

UNSW Art Collection

The UNSW Art Collection began in 1955 with the purpose of humanising the University's new but bleak environment. Today the Collection numbers nearly 1200 works in a variety of media, acquired through purchase and donation.

Displays throughout the buildings provide the campus community with daily exposure to aspects of Australian art collected from a University perspective.
