IMPORTANT: A New E-mail Service for Alumni

By the end of February 2010 UNSW will be offer all alumni a new email service called “zMail”. This is a web based email service that is managed and provisioned by UNSW and hosted by Microsoft at the “Outlook live” site in the USA.

The benefits of zMail include an increased storage capacity of 10GB, a single log-in requirement on your home page and file storage in the SkyDrive (i.e. photos etc).

Once you activate your new zMail account as an alumnus it will exist for life.

UNSW has progressively replaced the current UniMail email service for all undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students.

zMail will provides a significant improvement over the previous UniMail service which is limited to only 20Mb of storage.

On the 3rd of February, all existing Alumni UniMail accounts were migrated to the new zMail service.

On the 8th of February this new service will be made available to all alumni who have not yet set up their Alumni Life E-mail accounts.

Alumni Access to the UniMail service will be closed down on the 1st of April. All alumni most ensure they have migrated any messages they wish to keep by this date.

Activate new zMail Account
You will need to “Activate” your zMail account before you can login to your email service. This activation process sets up your “forgotten password” questions and a number of other preferences for your zMail account. There are complete instructions to guide you through this process on the IT@UNSW website.

Moving your messages from UniMail to zMail
Access to your UniMail account will remain up until the 1 April 2010 to enable you to move any email messages in UniMail you may wish to keep to your new zMail service. There are complete instructions to “Import UniMail” email into your zMail service on the IT@UNSW website. It is suggested you migrate these emails from UniMail to zMail as soon as you have set up access to your new zMail account.

Alternative Email Delivery Solution
Rather than setting up a UNSW email account to read UNSW emails you can have them redirected to your preferred email service such as Gmail, Optus, Yahoo or your current work email address. Just use the redirection instructions found on the IT at UNSW website.

Help – IT Service Centre
If you have any problems with accessing or setting up your new zMail please contact the IT Service Centre on +612 9385 1333. Please try following the online documentation on setting up your account before contacting the Service Centre.

FAQ’s about the zMail service are available on the IT@UNSW website.
