Professor Leszek Balcerowicz

Conferring of an Honorary Degree and public lecture by Professor Balcerowicz
on "Institutional Change After Communism"


Professor Balcerowicz is a Professor of Economics at the Warsaw School of Economics, Former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, and Former President of the National Bank of Poland.

The lecture will also mark the launch of the UNSW Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies of Law

LUCY MENTORING PROGRAM

UNSW Careers and Employment is excited to be running the Lucy Mentoring Program again in 2008.

The Minister for Women launched the program at UNSW in 2007 and both students and mentors found it to be an enriching and inspiring experience.

We are seeking expressions of interest from senior level women with business, accounting, management, government or legal backgrounds to become involved as mentors.

Alumni Award winners honoured

Winners of the 2007 Alumni Awards were honoured at a special presentation ceremony held at UNSW on Monday 10 March.

UNSW Chancellor David Gonski AC and Vice-Chancellor Professor Fred Hilmer AO attended the ceremony, which recognises the outstanding achievements of UNSW alumni in the areas of Business and Commerce, Science and Technology, Arts and Law, and in the Community at Large.
The winners of the 2007 UNSW Alumni Association Alumni Awards are:

  • Paul Cave, BCom (1969). Mr Cave is best known as the founder of BridgeClimb, an iconic company he launched in 1989.

  • Dr Zhengrong Shi, BSc 1983 (Jilin), MSc 1986 (Shanghai), PhD 1992 (UNSW). Dr Shi is the Chairman of the Board and CEO of Suntech Power Co Ltd, the fourth largest photovoltaics manufacturer in the world.

  • Juliet Bourke, BA 1986, LLB 1988 (UNSW), LLM (Hons) 1998 (Syd). Ms Bourke has actively worked to improve outcomes for disadvantaged and vulnerable employees via legal and social policy reforms.

  • Dr Michael Carr-Gregg, BA (Hons) 1979, MA 1982 (Wellington), PhD 1989 (UNSW). A leading adolescent psychologist, Dr Carr-Gregg is an official ambassador for the National Depression Initiative, BeyondBlue.


  • In addition, the 2008 UNSW Alumni Association Graduand Awards were presented to:

  • Dr. Angela Titmuss

  • Victoria Tan
