Introduction
The University facilitates recruitment of its students for purposes of full time employment on completion of a degree program, or for vacation employment, which may serve as a valuable recruitment tool, or may provide a company with a way of providing expertise for a particular project. Students are recruited for either:
Careers Expo and Graduate Recruitment Program The Careers and Employment office runs the Careers Expo in April, as a prelude to the first of two Graduate Recruitment Programs (GRP). Nearly 10,000 final-year UNSW students regard the Expo as a time to gather information needed to select which organisations to apply to during the GRP and graduate recruitment in general. During the GRP, or at any time of the year, organisations can interview at UNSW using our online interview scheduler or at their premises. The Careers and Employment office also offers other employer services including Recruitment Solutions Brochure; Graduate Careers Forum (Arts and Science); International Employment Program; JobsOnline and Targeted Mail/Email Service to advertise positions within Australia and internationally; Employer Information Sessions to promote organisations directly to students; and Guest Presenter Workshop Series where companies can run a presentation on a careers-related topic and boost their profile on campus. Employer feedback from previous Careers Expos "The Careers Expo was well-organised, with volunteers who were extremely helpful in assisting company reps in preparations for the display. . . A constant stream of keen and interested students throughout the entire day." National Australia Bank. "Of the three universities, UNSW far outstripped the others. The number of high quality applicants attending was far in excess of our expectations and far higher than last year. It feels as if this Careers Day has achieved some sort of critical mass and is now producing excellent results." Optiver Australia. UNSW Co-op Scholarship Program The UNSW Co-op Scholarship program is a partnership between industry and UNSW which provides scholarships in Commerce, Engineering and Science to high achieving undergraduate students who receive structured industrial training during the course of their degree with up to four industry sponsors. HPM, one of Australia’s leading electrical manufacturers, has a relationship with UNSW going back more than 20 years and is a founding sponsor of the UNSW Co-op Scholarship Program. "The Co-op Program was very successful. We found that the students who came to us were very good and motivated, and two of the students from the Co-op program are now in important positions at HPM. I also think that those students who worked with us and went elsewhere, valued the experience. After the student finishes they have to write a report which we all listen to. It was refreshing to know how we looked from their point of view." Peter Simon, AM, Managing Director, HPM Industries. |
