Services for students with disabilities
Students with disabilities at UNSW can receive free and confidential services to assist their studies from the Student Equity and Diversity Unit.
What services are available?
Disability services include:
- note-takers
- sign-interpreters
- typists
- readers
- examination provisions
- library assistance
- reserved parking for students with mobility impairment (RTA Sticker)
- Disability Resource Centre
- assistive technology
- advice on alternative assessment
- Academic Contact Officers

- liaison with academic staff

Who should I contact?
Students with disabilities should contact the Equity Officers (Disability), for an appointment as soon as possible to discuss their service requirements. Please note that medical documentation should be brought to the first appointment. Students are also encouraged to discuss their service needs with the Equity Officers (Disability) prior to enrolment.

What is considered to be a disability?
The definition of disability follows the Disability Discrimination Act (1992) definition and includes:
- deaf/hearing impairment
- blind/vision impairment
- physical disability
- specific learning disability
- psychiatric disability
- acquired brain injury
- chronic medical conditions
- temporary disability
