Symposium Capabilities, Freedoms and Policy Making in the Pacific Region

This Symposium brings together academics, policymakers, and practitioners to discuss how, and the extent to which, the 'capability approach' and the human development paradigm can engage governmental and non-governmental institutions in their policy decision-making processes.

The Symposium sets the stage for a cross-disciplinary dialogue among academics, policymakers and practitioners in the Pacific region from a variety of fields, including development, design and architecture, anthropology, sociology, law, political economy.

Presenters will explore the 'capability approach' and its application in national and international policy contexts, prompting discussion of the role and relevance of human freedoms, well-being, and rights in the pursuit of 'human development'.
