Our students

Alex, who attended Hunter Valley Grammar School, has just finished his first year studying a combined Commerce/Science degree. "An afternoon could see me doing anything from heading up the road to Coogee beach, catching up with friends at the uni-bar, getting in some training for soccer (or our quidditch team!) or, if it is the season, heading to rehearsal for one of the many plays put on by UNSW societies throughout the year."
Bridget is in her third year of a Bachelor of Arts, with a major in Development Studies. "I had heard about an area of study called Development Studies, which was all about developing countries and included aspects of history, sociology, economics and international relations. I was very interested in pursuing it and found it was offered as a major stream in the Bachelor of Arts which suited me fine as it allowed me to also pursue my other interests in French and History."
Chen, originally from Melbourne, is in his fourth year of a combined Commerce (majoring in Accounting)/Law degree. "In my first year, I got involved in UNSW Law Revue a sketch comedy stage show. I've never acted in my life or participated in something so time consuming but they were so welcoming and I've now done it for four years. It is something so amazing that you become so passionate about and nobody really understands the fantastic friendships you build and the awesome times you have. Just get involved and take a chance because it will never do you wrong."
Mikayla, who attended Tweed River High School, is now in her second year of a Bachelor of Medicine/Surgery. "The best part of my degree is it being very practical. I enjoyed working in the hospitals and seeing patients. I'm seeing the application of the medical sciences I have been taught and it makes me optimistic for my future career."
Patrick is in his second year of a combined Electrical Engineering/Commerce degree. "To choose my degree I thought about subjects that I really enjoyed at high school. Since I was maths and physics oriented I thought engineering was a great choice that suited my strengths. I also had a keen interest in commerce so decided to combine these two degrees. The opportunity to study a combined degree has provided me with a breadth of knowledge that will best equip me for my future career."
Peter previously attended the German International School Sydney, and is now in his fifth year of a combined Commerce (majoring in Finance)/Law degree. He recently completed a one-year exchange to Germany. "The option to go overseas and study at another institution is a unique opportunity to develop yourself academically, but it also makes you grow as a person when you're in an unfamiliar environment and thrown into a culture that is unlike your own. University teaches you more than just the degree you're studying, it teaches life skills."
Simone is now in her fourth year of a Commerce (majoring in Accounting) degree, and is part of the Co-op program. "I was first introduced to the Co-op program by my lovely careers adviser, who suggested that since I was undertaking a variety of extra-curricular activities and had an interest in accounting, that I should apply for Co-op. We also had a student ambassador come to our school to introduce us to the program, and it seemed like a GREAT opportunity!"
