Application process
The direct application process
Once you have submitted your application form to the Admissions Office, your application will be registered on the University’s student database and you will be given a unique student ID number. You will also be given one or more application ID numbers. Please quote these numbers in any correspondence you have with the University regarding your application(s).
Application on hold
On receiving your application, the Admissions office will check that it contains all the required information and documentation.
If you have not provided enough information about your previous studies, your application will be put on hold and you will be informed that until you provide this information, you will not be considered for admission to UNSW. If you do fall into this category, your application status will be set to WAITLIST.
If you have not provided information about your previous studies because you have not yet completed them, please provide this information as soon as it becomes available. Your application will be kept on hold until this time.
Please note: The University will only assess applications for postgraduate coursework study from individuals who have either completed studies at Australian Bachelor degree level or equivalent, or who are in the final session of such studies. If you would like more information about the minimum entry requirements, please visit the postgraduate section of this website.
Also, the Admissions Office will only hold applications for a maximum of 12 months, after which time they will be discarded. It is strongly recommended that you make your application when you are within 6 months of completing your Australian Bachelor degree or equivalent studies.

Application Assessment & Transfer Credit
The Direct Admissions Office assesses applications for postgraduate study and makes offers to study on the basis of academic merit.
If you believe that your previous study makes you eligible to receive advanced standing (also called transfer credit), you should indicate that on your application form or separately in writing. The Admissions Office passes all requests, including documentary evidence of courses studied at an equivalent level to UNSW courses, for exemption to the relevant school (program authority). Only these program authorities have the right to award advanced standing.
Applicants will be sent written notification of the amount of transfer credit they have been awarded, if their application is successful.
