Careers & Employment


Careers and Employment offers workshops for students on job searching, career planning, resume writing, and interview skills. You can also get individual assistance with your resume career management advice. Check the website for job vacancies and activities coordinated by the unit.

Contact is a student run information and referral service. You can ask any question at Contact without fear of embarrassment. Set up by students, run for students and funded by the UNSW Counselling Service, the Student Guild and the University Union.

Counselling Service


The Counselling Service offers a broad ranging support service for students at the University. Through the COMPASS programs students can access services including individual counselling, skills development courses and self-help resources.

Equity And Diversity Unit


The Equity and Diversity Unit provides services for students and staff including: advice and information on anti-discrimination legislation, policies and practice; assistance with grievance handling under UNSW's discrimination and harassment grievance procedures; disability services for staff and students; support to ACCESS students; assistance to Faculties on integrating equity into mainstream work and educational practices; presentations to staff and students, and more.

Graduate Research School


The Graduate Research School aims to support both postgraduate research students and supervisors. It recognises the unique needs of postgraduate research students with services ranging from information on scholarship and career opportunities to thesis submission assistance and skills training. It also provides a central hub for social events and networking opportunities to meet with fellow students and researchers.

Health Service


The University Health Service is a complete general practice situated within the University. The medical practitioners bulk-bill Medicare. The service is open to students, staff and visitors to the campus.

The University Housing Office assists students and staff to find accomodation while they are at the University of New South Wales.

Indigenous Programs - Nura Gili


Nura Gili Indigenous Programs provide a combination of support and assistance for all future and current Indigenous UNSW students through their Student Centre, as well as learning and education opportunities through their Resource Centre.


IT Service Desk


The IT Service Desk is the central support point for UNSW staff and students requiring assistance with IT related matters. It combines and replaces the Helpdesks previously run by DISConnect and ACSU. The IT Service Desk handles enquiries related to computer, telephone and network issues. International Student Services


International Student Services (ISS) helps students from overseas adjust to living in Sydney and studying at UNSW. The ISS offers arrival services as well as an extensive range of on-going support services and activities.

Learning Centre


The Learning Centre provides a wide range of academic support services to UNSW students. Assistance is available through workshops in academic skills, individual consultations, discipline-based learning and language programs, and an academic skills resource library. All services and programs are provided free of charge.

Legal Services


The Student Guild offers a free Legal Service. The solicitor is employed by the Guild, not the University, and you will receive absolute discretion and impartial advice. The solicitor also advises on non-academic matters, including traffic offences, tenancy problems etc. For an appointment call the Student Guild on ph. 9385 5454.

Library


The University Library serves the learning, teaching and research needs of the University community through five Special Libraries. Four Special Libraries are located in the Library building at Kensington and one at the College of Fine Arts in Paddington.

Postgraduate Board


All Postgraduate Students at UNSW are members of, and represented by, the Postgraduate Board of the Student Guild. The Board has regular meetings where guest speakers provide information of particular interest to postgraduates.
The Postgraduate Board employs a full-time Research/Services Officer who conducts research on local and national postgraduate issues, as well as providing an advisory and advocacy service for postgraduate students. Assistance with academic and administrative grievances, and advice and resources on academic matters including supervision and thesis writing is also available. The Research/Services Officer is also responsible for the day to day running of the Postgraduate lounge.

Religious Centre


The Religious Centre is provided for all students and staff of the University. Overseas students are especially catered for. The Religious Centre is currently attended by Anglican, Catholic, Orthodox, Pentecostal and Uniting Church Chaplains. Full-time and part-time Chaplains conduct worship services, hold prayer meetings, lead Bible Studies, and offer spiritual and personal counselling.
The Islamic Society has an Imam in attendance with meeting and prayer rooms available for Muslim students. The Buddhist student group, "Unibuds," also has facilities in the Centre. There is a Jewish Chaplain who relates to the Centre. The Baha'i Society also has affiliation with the Centre.

Security provides building access, alarms and monitoring, security patrols, UNIBEAT, carpooling, ID cards, lost property and parking information.

The Sports Association organises lunch time sport, high performance sport, provides scholarships, organises uni games and runs other sporting related student issues.

Student Guild


The Student Guild is the peak student representative body on campus. It represents all UNSW students, seeking to foster and protect their interests, fight for equitable and accessible education, and promote the cultural and recreational life of the university. It publicises issues of student concern and ensures that students have a voice in decision making processes. They provide free legal advice, advocacy and various other services.

Student WebCT Support Site


The Student WebCT Support Site contains resources for students enrolled in courses with WebCT components and includes: getting started and learning WebCT; plug-ins and utilities; UNSW online services; WebCT courses available at UNSW; and access to a help desk. Central student support is available via a Support Request Form as well as the resources on this Web site.


Transport


Full-time students are issued with a transport logo on their student card that allows concession travel on all CityRail, STA and NSW Country Link services. Part-time and international (full-fee) students are not entitled to transport concession under NSW Government legislation.

UNSW Student Central


UNSW Student Central is the public face of the University's student administration. It is often the first point of contact for members of the public and enrolled students regarding programs, admission procedures and queries of an academic or administrative nature. It also provides advice to students on who they should contact regarding variation of courses, program transfer and program leave.
