UNSW believes that it is vitally important to ensure a quality learning and teaching experience for both our staff and students and to provide multiple and varied opportunities for staff development in learning and teaching. Common to all programs is the focus on building communities of practice and reflective professional practice. All staff at UNSW with teaching responsibilities are encouraged to participate and contribute to staff development based on the recognition that such cross-disciplinary conversations can enrich and inform our understanding and practice in learning and teaching. Embedded professional development is occurring through initiatives, including the Australian Learning and Teaching Council funded projects: 'Caught between a rock and several hard places’ : Cultivating the roles of the Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning) and the Course Coordinator; and Develop and implement a pilot program of 'External Peer Review of Teaching' in four Australian Universities. The current learning and teaching activities, programs and resources described below are designed to support staff at the various stages of their academic careers at UNSW.
