| The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Richard Henry AM |
The key responsibilities of the Division are students from recruitment to graduation (the student experience in its broadest sense), academic staff (recruitment, staff development, promotions, learning and teaching) and international operations.
UNSW performs well in teaching rankings. The 2009 round of the Learning & Teaching Performance Fund ranked UNSW as the number 1 university in Australia. We will strive to continue to improve the quality of our teaching.
We are proud of the exceptionally high calibre of our students but we cannot take this for granted. Our aim is to increase the UAI of commencing students while maintaining or increasing the numbers of Indigenous students, ACCESS students, rural students and lower socioeconomic status students.
Much is written about the importance of the student experience. In the new era of voluntary student unionism, the Division of the DVC (Academic) is working closely with the student body to improve all aspects of campus life. A major initiative has been the development of a secondary transcript, whereby the academic record is supplemented by documentation of overseas study, of industry experience and of significant community and volunteering activities.
UNSW International headed by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International), Ms Jennie Lang, is responsible for the International Strategy. The four pillars of the Strategy are student recruitment, global research, global education and global community.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Students) & Registrar, Professor Joan Cooper, including Student Recruitment and Scholarships (also The Co-op Program), Student Management (applying through to graduation), Academic Administration (student business systems and the student portal, myUNSW), Student Equity and Disabilities and Student Development (The Learning Centre, Counselling and Careers and Employment, International Student Services) and Marketing Services.
