Welcome to the Division of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic)
The Division of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) was restructured following the appointment of Professor Richard Henry as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) in August 2006. The key responsibilities of the Division are students from recruitment to graduation (the student experience in its broadest sense), academic staff (recruitment, staff development, promotions, learning and teaching) and international operations. UNSW performs well in teaching rankings. The most recent round of the Learning & Teaching Performance Fund allocated more money to UNSW than any other university in New South Wales and we were ranked in the top 3 in Australia. We aim to maintain and indeed increase our rankings in the Learning & Teaching Performance Fund. We are proud of the exceptionally high calibre of our students but we cannot take this for granted. Our aim is to increase the UAI of commencing students while maintaining or increasing the numbers of Indigenous students, ACCESS students, rural students and lower socioeconomic status students. Much is written about the importance of the student experience. In the new era of voluntary student unionism, the Division of the DVC (Academic) is working closely with the student body to improve all aspects of campus life. A major initiative is the development of a secondary transcript, whereby the academic record is supplemented by documentation of overseas study, of industry experience and of significant community and volunteering activities.
