UNSW Satisfaction Survey
![]() |
The UNSW Satisfaction Survey obtains feedback on students' overall satisfaction with UNSW, including the quality of the educational experience at UNSW and the facilities and services that support learning and teaching. The University surveys currently enrolled students on a regular basis to obtain feedback on students' overall satisfaction with UNSW, with the quality of the educational experience at UNSW, and with the quality of facilities and services that support learning and teaching.
In particular years, the survey addresses a number of additional issues of strategic importance. Additional issues that have been addressed to date include students' access to information technology, the circumstances of students that might impact on timetabling and transport, students' acquisition of generic skills and attributes, and their assessment of the core values espoused by UNSW. Student survey results are included in the annual Report on Performance Indicators and in the University's Educational Profiles submission to DEST.
In 2006 the questionnaire was developed for use at UNSW by the Institutional Analysis and Reporting Office, with the assistance of the Learning and Teaching Unit. Key questions in the UNSW Student Experience Survey have been adapted from the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), a survey widely used in the USA. Other items in the 2006 survey are drawn from previous iterations of the survey in order to obtain time series data relating to satisfaction with teaching, facilities and services, and to assess overall satisfaction with the University. These items also include the good teaching items from the Course Experience Questionnaire (CEQ) so that comparisons can be made between current students and graduating students who complete the CEQ.
In 2006, a number of minor changes were made to the UNSW Student Experience Survey. These included changing the wording of some of the items in Question 1 of the survey to more closely reflect the wording of the CEQ good teaching items and improve validity. A further change involved modifying the scale used in Question 13 to acquire more detailed information from students on their experiences of relationships with teaching staff, other students and administrative staff at UNSW
