New Indonesian Ambassador Visits UNSW
0th December
Newly appointed Indonesian Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Sudjadnan Parnohadiningrat, visited UNSW last week to provide a special briefing to key opinion makers on political developments in Indonesia.
Addressing an audience of academics, human rights advocates and media representatives, the Ambassador canvassed issues relating to the change of government in Indonesia, what he sees as the "democratisation" of political processes in his country and Indonesia's relationship with Australia.
The Ambassador highlighted the fact that the recent transition of power in Indonesia had proved to be peaceful, which he sees as a sign that the Indonesian people are beginning to "firmly embrace" the values of democracy.
Sudjadnan Parnohadiningrat was appointed Ambassador to Australia on 31 May this year. He was most recently head of the Indonesian delegation to UNTEAT, the United Nations Transitional Administration for East Timor.
The Ambassador was welcomed to the University by UNSW Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Niland, and Professor Tong Wu, Pro Vice-Chancellor (International)
