UNSW Ties a Yellow Ribbon

0th December

A campaign to encourage students suffering from depression to seek help was launched last week at UNSW.
While the Yellow Ribbon campaign is a national initiative, UNSW student Winsa Dai enlisted the help of the UNSW Counselling Service to ensure it would be adopted within the University. Guest speakers at the launch included Triple JJJ's Adam Spencer and Rae Fry, a reporter on ABC TV's new science program Catalyst.

The Yellow Ribbon Program began in the USA in 1994 as a response to the tragedy of teen suicide. A key component of the campaign is the distribution of Yellow Ribbon cards, which can be used by young people in distress to signal to someone they trust that they need help. The cards also provide information about local crisis phone lines and help centres.

A follow up meeting for people interested in becoming more involved in the campaign will be held on 14 August at 3pm, in Room 1001, East Wing, Quadrangle Building. For further information, contact Georgina Barratt-See at the UNSW Counselling Service on 9385 5418, or counselling@unsw.edu.au, or Ms Dai at winsa@optusnet.com.au.
