FINANCE CONFERENCE AIMS FOR WORLD PEACE

How financial systems can encourage world peace through predictable interest rates and stable international trade will be one of the issues to be addressed at the 14th Australasian Finance & Banking Conference 'Financial Systems of the New Millennium'.
According to conference organiser Professor Fariborz Moshirian from UNSW's School of Banking and Finance who is also the author of "Financial Systems in the New Millennium", the conference will address some of the underlying economic causes of war and terrorism and look at ways of ensuring that the global financial market becomes more integrated.

"Financial systems should be designed to ensure that the benefits of globalism can reach all nations and people. They should provide the environment for a universal education system which will ensure that all nations are able to improve their financial and economic conditions and hence there will be less incentive for war and terrorism," he said.
The Australasian Finance and Banking Conference, organised by the School of Banking and Finance and the Asia Pacific Research Centre at the University of New South Wales, provides an opportunity for the Australian finance community to be directly involved in cutting edge analysis and discussion of financial issues currently facing the global financial market.
The conference will be officially opened by the NSW Premier the Honorable Mr. Bob Carr at 11am on Tuesday 18th December.
Leading international finance experts will address the conference including: Professor Milton Harris, University of Chicago; Professor Arthur Raviv, North Western University; Professor Jarl Kallberg, New York University; Professor Gregory Udell, Indiana University; Professor Richard Roll, UCLA; Professor Loretta Mester, Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia; Professor Giorgio Szego, University of Rome; Professor Allen Berger, The United States' Federal Reserve Board; Professor Michael Johannes, Columbia University; and Dr Urs Peyer, INSEAD.
