UNSW WELCOMES NEW RESEARCH LEADERSHIP
0th December
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of New South Wales, Professor John Niland, has welcomed the appointment of Mr Peter Wills, AC, as Chairman of the Australian Research Council.
"The appointment of Mr Wills as chairman of the ARC is most welcome. Through his chairmanship of the Garvan Institute and of the Review of Health and Medical Research in 1999, he has demonstrated a keen understanding of the needs of research organisations in Australia, and has bolstered that understanding with action," Professor Niland said.
"UNSW, as a pre-eminent research university, looks forward to Mr Wills' leadership of the ARC. As Chair he will carry forward his talents to the benefit of the broader research community and contribute enormously to the enhancement of Australia's research capability."
Professor Niland said Mr Wills' business acumen would be an added bonus for the Australian research community.
Professor Niland also warmly welcomed Professor Vicki Sara's appointment as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of the ARC, commenting that her "fine track record in advancing the interests of Australian research further boosts confidence in the future".
