Four UNSW alumni have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to their profession and the community. They have been presented with the 2001 UNSW Alumni Awards.

Since graduating from UNSW Dato' David Koh (BSc '72) has become one of Malaysia's premier housing developers. His extensive contributions to Malaysian society have seen him awarded the Royal title of Dato'. "UNSW's science faculty gave me a learning and exposure that was inquisitive and precise," Dato' Koh said.

Also recognised was artist, writer, lecturer and Aboriginal rights advocate Brenda Croft, who graduated from UNSW with a Master of Arts Administration in 1995. Ms Croft is the Senior Curator for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art at the National Gallery of Australia.

Scientist Dr Timothy Flannery completed his PhD at UNSW in 1985 and has spent the past 16 years tracing the origins of kangaroos. He has found 20 new species of tree kangaroo and is the Director of the South Australian Museum.

UNSW has also recognised the contributions of Reverend William Crews (BEd, '68). Working at the Wayside Chapel Rev. Crews helped create Australia's first 24-hour Crisis Centre and Life Education Centre. His dedication to the disadvantaged has seen him named as one of the National Trust's 100 National Living Treasures and awarded the Order of Australia.
