HEAD OF COUNCIL FOR MULTICULTURAL AUSTRALIA TO RECEIVE UNSW HONORARY DOCTORATE

Neville Roach, chairman of the Council for Multicultural Australia and former Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Fujitsu Australia, will be awarded a University of New South Wales honorary Doctor of Science.
The award recognises Mr Roach's contributions to the Australian information technology industry and his commitment to multiculturalism and reconciliation.
Born in India, Neville Roach was educated at the University of Bombay. As head of Fujitsu Mr Roach was active in fostering the development of the Australian IT industry and emphasised the importance of making the benefits of technology available to the broader community.
Mr Roach has been a significant contributor to the development of national policies and programs in relation to social and cultural issues, particularly multiculturalism. His Australian Government appointments include membership of the Cooperative Research Centre Committee and the Trade Policy Advisory Council. He is Chairman of the Council for Multicultural Australia and Deputy Chairman of SBS. He has also served as Director of the Committee for Economic Development of Australia and has been Chair of the Asia-in-Australia Council.
With a strong interest in higher education, Mr Roach serves on the UNSW Foundation Board and on the Advisory Council of the Australian Graduate School of Management.
