Rewarding Excellence
0th December
UNSW Vice Chancellor Professor John Niland has given Year 12 student Bambul Shakibaei a pre-HSC confidence boost, presenting to him the Professor John Niland Medal of Excellence.
The medal, established and named by the UNSW Commerce and Economics Society, recognises Bambul's achievement of the perfect score in the AMP Economics and Business Studies Competition. The annual competition aims to encourage high school students' understanding of the economy in the real world.
Bambul, who attends James Ruse Agricultural High School, said he was surprised to have received 100 per cent in the exam. "I came in the top 25 last year and I thought that would be my peak result. I would have been happy to get in the top 25 again this year so coming first was a big surprise. I am excited but I don't think that it has really hit me yet. "
Professor Niland hosted an afternoon tea for Bambul, who hopes to study economics law at UNSW next year.
