City of Sydney
City Riches, a conference on Sydney's cultural economy to be held this week at the Museum of Sydney, is one of the first projects of the Centre for Sydney. The Centre was established in 2001 by the Faculty of the Built Environment to facilitate research and dialogue on the future of the Sydney region.

The one-day conference, which is jointly sponsored by the Museum, will bring together policy makers and planning experts to discuss how Sydney's cultural industries can contribute to the city's prosperity and global competitiveness.

Keynote speaker Professor Allen Scott, Director of the Centre for Globalisation and Policy Research at the University of California, Los Angeles and author of The Cultural Economy of Cities, will discuss the economic potential of Sydney's emerging arts, culture and entertainment industries. Other speakers will highlight the development of these industries in comparable Asia Pacific cities.

City Riches is at the Museum of Sydney on Friday 23 August, from 11.00am till 5.30pm.
