The Australian Defence Force Academy has produced its third Rhodes Scholar in three years.

Adam Easton, 23, now an Army Lieutenant stationed in Townsville, graduated from ADFA with a Bachelor of Science with first class Honours in 2001. He won a UNSW medal for exceptional achievement the same year, as well as two military prizes for military and academic achievement.

“Being awarded a Rhodes Scholarship is something I would never have imagined five years ago, “ said Lieutenant Easton. “I am very grateful to the Defence Force and the University of New South Wales for the skills, confidence and knowledge they have given me.”

Lieutenant Easton will use his studies at Oxford to extend his Honours thesis work in military simulation, which he commenced in his Computer Science work at UNSW.

“I found military simulation an exciting area. I intend to stay with the Army and use the skills gained at Oxford in some capacity to benefit the Defence Force,” he said.

In the past six years, a total of eight graduates of UNSW have won Rhodes Scholarships, which are awarded on four criteria: leadership, community service, academic and sporting achievements.
