Congratulations to Architect Glenn Murcutt

0th December

UNSW congratulates one of its distinguished alumni, Glenn Murcutt, on winning architecture's highest honour, the Pritzker Prize.

Mr Murcutt, who graduated from UNSW in 1961, is the first Australian to win the coveted award. Previous Pritzker laureates include Frank Gehry, Sir Norman Foster and Renzo Piano.

The Australian architect is internationally known for his environmentally sensitive modernist houses that respond to the landscape and climate. He is the first sole practitioner to win the award.

Said the Pritzker judges: "Glenn Murcutt has become a living legend…he occupies a unique place in today's architectural firmament."

Mr Murcutt, who lives in Sydney, was a pivotal member of the UNSW Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Committee for Campus Development. He made a significant contribution to setting the tone and shape of what has been achieved at UNSW.

Glen Murcutt will receive the $100,000 prize at a ceremony in Rome on May 29. For more information go to www.pritzkerprize.com
