Australia Ensemble Launches 2003 Season

0th December

Australia Ensemble
Pleasure and musical renewal are the themes of the Australia Ensemble's exciting line up for next year.

Resident at UNSW, the Ensemble is widely recognised as the country's finest chamber music group. The 2003 concert series will showcase the outstanding talents of the group's seven players: Dene Olding and Dimity Hall, violins; Irina Morozova, viola; Julian Smiles, cello; Geoffrey Collins, flute; Catherine McCorkill, clarinet; and Ian Munro, piano.

"There are a number of stimulating and rewarding newcomers to the AE repertory and plenty of acknowledged masterpieces of the kind that can bring a program to a triumphant or emotional ending: Brahms's mighty C minor piano quartet, Shostakovich's third string quartet, and Mendelssohn's D minor piano trio," said Artistic Director Roger Covell. "I invite you to join us for six occasions of musical delight."

Australian composers are well represented in the program, including Butterley, Vine, Grenfell, Edwards, Sculthorpe, and ending the season, a new work for the Ensemble by Andrew Ford - Chamber Concerto no.4.
