UNSW’s School of Civil and Environmental Engineering has scooped the pool at this year’s Institution of Engineers Australia Excellence Awards, with three out of four of the awards going to current or former students of the school.

The ceremony, held in Sydney, saw environmental engineering student James Barrett named 2002 Engineering Student of the Year, with Sean Rice and Paul De Launay, both of whom graduated from UNSW in civil engineering, also collecting honours. Sean, currently director of engineering services at Bourke Shire Council, was named Young Professional Engineer of the Year. Paul, who works as a consultant to the UNHCR, received the Fred Hollows Humanitarian Award.

Good news also from the Faculty of the Built Environment, with recent graduate Nicole Leunig awarded the Board of Architects of NSW Medallion for 2002. The bi-annual award is presented to the most outstanding graduate from the State’s four architecture programs.
