Hot Potato: Corporate Governance

0th December

The latest issue of the UNSW Law Journal, out today, focuses on one of the most vigorously debated subjects of recent times: corporate governance.

Financial journalist Trevor Sykes will launch the publication on Monday 4 November 2002 at Freehills, Level 38, MLC Centre at 5.45pm. Among those attending are representatives from ASIC, the ASX, and the ASA; business and legal practitioners; as well as senior academics from a number of leading universities.

With HIH and One.Tel never far from the news, the thirteen contributors to the issue cover such hot topics as corporate social intervention, performance-based remuneration and future directions for financial disclosure and auditing. A common theme that emerges is the need for a significant change in business culture, in addition to any regulatory changes.

Authors include Henry Bosch AO (former Chairman of the NCSC), Jillian Segal (formerly Deputy Chair of ASIC), Professor John Farrar (Executive Director, Bond University Institute for Global Corporate Governance Studies), Stephen Bartholomeusz (daily business columnist for The Age) and Professor Brian Cheffins (University of Cambridge).
