MEDIA, NEWS & EVENTSFBE makes an exhibition of itself01 December 2003
Final-year students from the faculty of the built environment will showcase their graduation projects this week in exhibitions at the Sydney Opera House and at the Argyle Stores in the Rocks. A number of Sydney's landmark sites have been transformed - at least conceptually - by students from the interior architecture program in the Lot 53 exhibition. Lot 53 represents the work of 53 graduands and is the first student exhibition to be held in The Studio at the Sydney Opera House. Students were asked to convert a real site from across Sydney or anywhere in the world into a design proposal which would be brought to life through large-scale screen image projection as well as models and drawings. The Albury Hotel on Oxford Street has been transformed into a centre for film and sound, the disused White Bay power station has been re-invented as a fashion school and the MTV headquarters have been relocated to the sub-infrastructure of an expressway in Singapore.
Imaginate, the industrial design final year student exhibition on display in the Argyle Stores at the Rocks highlights the changing needs of our society with over 50 innovative designs. Designs include a frontloading potato peeler for people with rheumatoid arthritis, a combined refrigerator microwave oven appliance designed for the single male household and a biodegradable food relief package that uses popcorn to cushion its load.
