Genetics in the courtroom: special issue of UNSW Law Journal

Genetic testing, ownership of the human genome, and the legal issues arising from the rapid advances in genetic technology are some of the topics covered in a special issue of the UNSW Law Journal.
“'Genetics and the Law' makes a valuable contribution to the debate surrounding the regulation of genetic information and technology in Australia,” Journal editor Ben Goodman said.
Justice Annabelle Bennett of the Federal Court of Australia will launch the publication at the Sydney offices of Freehills this Tuesday, 16 December at 6pm.

Dr Kerry Breen, Chair, Australian Health Ethics Committee: ‘Maintaining community trust in biomedical research involving humans’
Professor Margaret Otlowski, University of Tasmania: ‘Genetic Discrimination: meeting the challenges of an emerging issue’
Justice Bennett will also launch the Journal’s Thematic Issue for 2003, entitled The Common Law. Contributors include Justices Mason (President) and Meagher of the NSW Court of Appeal, Francis Bennion (author of Statutory Interpretation: A Code) and David Ibbetson, Regius Professor of Civil Law at Cambridge.
The UNSW Law Journal is a refereed publication and one of the most widely cited legal reviews in Australia.
