Professor Peter Hall, Head of the School of Business at ADFA, has won the 2003 UNSW Staff Development Award for his outstanding leadership in implementing and facilitating the advancement of his staff.
Professor Hall won from a field of four. Nominees included the School of Marketing/MBT office, the TechTrain 2003 Committee and the Technical Occupational Health and Safety Solution (TOHSS) - a subcommittee of TechNet.
Professor Hall was nominated unanimously by the academic and general staff in his school for his staff development strategies. These included the creation of individual staff career plans, rectifying the gender imbalances in the school's academic staff and actively supporting professional development through the Foundations of Teaching and Learning and graduate certificate programs.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Rory Hume presented the award to Professor Hall at the annual celebration of staff development achievements last week.
Robyn Alexander, the director of Staff Development, said: "The growth of interest in this annual celebration is very gratifying. While the highlight may be the Staff Development Award, the event also recognises the many staff who participate in accredited staff development programs. This year, it was particularly pleasing to see many more deans, heads of school and managers there to support their staff."
This is the third year the Staff Development Award has been presented. Previous recipients were Professor John Storey, Head of the School of Physics, in 2002, and in 2001 the TechNet Committee.
