MEDIA, NEWS & EVENTSHonours for top teachers
08 December 2003
Three academics from the University have been recognised for their teaching excellence in the state's top teaching awards.
Associate Professors Raelene Frances and Bruce Scates, both from the school of history, and Dr Gary Velan, senior lecturer in the school of pathology, were among 40 teachers recognised in the NSW Minister for Education and Training and the Australian College of Educators Quality Teaching Awards.
They were three of only eight NSW university-based academics to receive the awards, which were presented recently by the Education Minister, Dr Andrew Refshauge, at NSW Government House.
UNSW also had two finalists at the national tertiary teaching awards, the Australian Awards for University Teaching, held at Parliament House in Canberra last week. Dr Prem Ramburuth from the school of international business was a finalist in the Teaching Awards category for economics, business, law and related studies. She also won the Pearson Education ANZAM Management Educator of the Year Award earlier this month.
A UNSW Community Development Project called 'Learning Partnerships with social housing communities' was a finalist in the Institutional Awards category for innovative provision of educational services. The project, a collaboration between the school of social work and the faculty of the built environment, is also a finalist in the upcoming NSW Premier's award.
