MEDIA, NEWS & EVENTSVice-Chancellor's Teaching Awards17 December 2003 Professor Rory Hume has announced the recipients of the UNSW Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Teaching Excellence for 2003. The awards, intended to encourage and reward excellence in teaching, have been extended in 2003 to include research supervision. Professor Rose Amal from the school of chemical engineering and industrial chemistry and Dr Robert MacKay from the school of information technology and electrical engineering at University College, ADFA received awards in the category of research supervision. Recipients in the general category were Dr Sean Brawley from the school of history; Dr Kathy Takayama from the school of biotechnology and biomolecular sciences; Dr Gary Velan from the school of medical sciences, and Associate Professor Eliathamby Ambikairajah of the school of electrical engineering and telecommunications. A team award for teaching excellence went to Dr Ann Game and Associate Professor Andrew Metcalfe from the school of sociology and anthropology. Professor Paul Munroe from the Electron Microscope Unit, Associate Professors Alan Crosky and Mark Hoffman from the school of materials science and engineering and Ms Belinda Allen from the educational development and technology centre also received a team award. Ms Allen joins a small group of outstanding general staff members that have received a Vice-Chancellor's Award for teaching since the annual awards were introduced in 1989.
