UNSW Linkage Project grants

The University of New South Wales has received a total of $3.2 million for 15 research projects from the Australian Research Council’s second round of Linkage Project grants.

The total pool of $47.5 million will support 261 research projects at 33 universities throughout Australia.

Commonwealth funding for Linkage Projects is designed to assist researchers to develop alliances with industry. Companies are co-funders of Linkage Projects, contributing $1.64 for every $1 spent by the Commonwealth.

The grants were awarded for research at UNSW in a wide range of areas including engineering, communications, business, biochemistry and biomedical, multimedia, ecology, chemistry and public health.

Research projects which attracted the highest levels of funding are in environmental engineering (Prof J Nowotny, Prof CC Sorrell: Processing of reduced-band-gap titania for solar-hydrogen; partner organisations: Rio Tinto Limited, Sialon Ceramics P/L); in information systems (A/Prof R Jamieson, A/Prof PF Luckett, Prof KM Langfield-Smith, A/Prof WT Sarre and Dr HN Pontell: Investigating identity fraud control, management and policy: Australia in a global context; partner organisation: AUSTRAC Steering Committee on P.o.I.); and in communications technologies (Prof AP Seneviratne and Dr BG Landfeldt: C4 - Open services architecture; partner organisation: Ericsson Australia P/L).
