Architecture student shares prestigious prize

11th November 2003

Lawson Katiza
UNSW architecture student Lawson Katiza is one of two winners of the 2003 Royal Australian Institute of Architects National Student Prize for the Advancement of Architecture.

Lawson, who shares the prize with University of Sydney student Iris Se Young Hwang, was honoured for advancing and promoting architecture through academic and scholastic achievements and “bringing to the wider community an understanding of how architects and architecture can contribute successfully to the global perspective.”

Lawson researched and developed an award-winning website to highlight and promote the appreciation of Zimbabwean architecture.

The Dzimba Dzemabwe-House of Stone traces and defines the progress of Zimbabwean architecture through the promotion of significant buildings which have shaped the nation and have moulded the unique dialect of Southern African architecture.

The prize recognises the work of students studying in Australia who have made a contribution to architecture in their own country.
