MEDIA, NEWS & EVENTSInterior design at the Opera House25 November 2003 For those who would like to see some of Sydney's landmark sites transformed - at least conceptually - The Studio at the Sydney Opera House will host a vibrant exhibition of designs by final-year students in the Interior Architecture program at the University of New South Wales. The Albury Hotel in Oxford Street turned into a centre for film and sound and the disused White Bay Powerstation re-invented as a fashion school will be some of the innovative concepts on display. The graduand students were asked to convert a real site from anywhere in the world. From the corporate headquarters of MTV in Singapore to a resort in Fiji, the results are imaginative and engaging. Funky nightclubs, wine bars, tourist centres, boutique hotels, fitness centres, train stations and restaurants will be brought to life through large-screen image projection as well as models and drawings. Highly detailed, the designs will include some of the latest choices available in furniture and fittings, materials and surface finishes. Public talks by some the country's leading experts in Interior Architecture will be held throughout the day. Topics include the signage system at the World Trade Centre and the history of interior architecture in Australia since 1945.
