MEDIA, NEWS & EVENTSSolar car cruises into town22 October 2003 A convoy of vehicles, led by a sleek, low-slung solar car, is set to arrive in your region. A team of 12 students from the University of New South Wales is en route to the bi-annual World Solar Challenge from Darwin to Adelaide. They are visiting regional centres along the way to show off UNSW Sunswift II, a solar powered car, designed and built by students. The UNSW solar racing team will be available to speak with the public about how the car runs, the type of projects students can work on if they study at UNSW and the rural scholarship programs available. As the car is being race-tested - and it relies on solar energy for power - it is not possible to give exact arrival times. A team member will contact your organisation with a more accurate arrival time on the day. Below is the tentative schedule: 9am, Tuesday, October 7, Ollie Robins Oval, Dubbo 4pm, Tuesday, October 7, Central Park, Bourke 8.30am, Thursday, October 9, Longreach State High School, Longreach 8.30am, Friday, October 10, Mt Isa State School, Mt Isa Media contact: Sarah Wilson, UNSW Media Office, ph 9385 8079, mob 0401 636 767 Team leader: Andrew Pratley, 0438 623 077 |
