Stem cell workshop at POW

14 October 2003

The third meeting of the NSW Stem Cell Network this week will bring together the latest research from overseas with a summary of Australian work in the area.

The workshop at Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick will be opened by the NSW Premier Bob Carr.

International speakers will describe stem cell use for Parkinson's Disease and ischaemic heart disease, the potential for repairing cells damaged by MS and arthritis, and recreating pancreatic and cardiac function.

Dr Alan Trounson of the National Stem Cell Centre will summarise the science presented at the recent Stem Cell Conference in Melbourne. Speakers will also include a representative of the NHMRC and a patent lawyer who will speak about intellectual property issues concerning stem cell lines.
