MEDIA, NEWS & EVENTSUN role for FBE student31 October 2003 Karen McNamara, a second year human geography PhD student in the Faculty of the Built Environment, has been awarded a prestigious internship with the Global Policy Forum in New York for 2004. The internship will enable Karen to access United Nations officials, diplomats and ambassadors as part of her PhD research on environmental security and international legal frameworks in the Pacific, supervised by Dr Chris Gibson. Karen will be working in the United Nations building in Manhattan. The Global Policy Forum is a non-government organisation that monitors policy making at the United Nations, promotes accountability of global decisions, educates and mobilises for global citizen participation, and advocates on vital issues of international peace and justice. Human geographers study spatial relationships, and social, economic and environmental problems. Common topics in human geography include migration, globalisation, diversity and sustainability.
