A Special Meeting of Council this afternoon received and accepted the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor and resolved to appoint Professor Mark Wainwright as the University’s Acting Vice-Chancellor.
Council also resolved that the interim administration will:
- Formalize the University strategic plan in broad accordance with the recently determined Divisional and Faculty plans.
- Continue the development of a new budget model, including an analysis of the high level options for Faculty and Divisional budget allocations in 2005 that take into account the Commonwealth education reforms and any inequities that may have arisen from recent University budgets, bringing draft recommendations on the new budget model to the August meeting of Council.
- Bring to the June meeting of Council an analysis of the funding options available to the University in the new student fees structure, having consulted broadly and including options that might minimise the financial burden on students.
- Bring forward for consideration without delay according to the normal procedures those building projects already in advanced stages of design (Law, Heffron, Analytical Centre).
- Address urgently the accommodation needs of research students generally and of discipline areas in medicine and biological sciences, especially in light of difficulties associated with progressing the BioHub initiatives in a relevant time frame.
Council re-affirms its commitment to:
- University procedures occurring in a transparent and accountable manner, recognising community and government requirements for effective risk management and fraud prevention.
- Addressing its responsibilities arising from the Hall matter.
- Ensuring that the impending State legislative changes consequent on the promulgation of the National Governance Protocols are appropriately implemented.
- Supporting the University’s role as a major research institution.
In adopting these resolutions, the Council commits to working with the interim administration and the University community to advance UNSW.
