HIV and Human Rights seminar: World AIDS Day

The Faculty of Medicine and the National Centre in HIV Social Research are co-hosting a seminar on HIV and human rights, to mark World AIDS Day.
“The seminar will consider the social and ethical issues arising from recent global initiatives to tackle HIV prevention and to increase access to better treatments,” said co-ordinator Dr Niamh Stephenson, from the School of Public Health and Community Medicine.
Among the guest speakers are the Director of the National Centre in HIV Social Research, Professor Susan Kippax, Professor John Kaldor from the National Centre in HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research, Sydney barrister and secretary of the AIDS Council of NSW, David Buchannan and Elizabeth Reid who has published widely on HIV, health and human rights.
Dr Stephenson said the seminar would also include representatives from community organisations. “This is appropriate because in Australia the research in this field has always been done in collaboration with the community and government.”
