MEDIA, NEWS & EVENTSRural scholarship to lure local talent07 December 2004 Professor Brendon Parker, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of New South Wales, will be in Blayney on Monday to launch a new rural scholarship program for local students entering Civil Engineering. Recognising the need to provide local employment for young professionals, the Wellington Blayney and Cabonne Strategic Alliance has entered into a partnership with UNSW for one rural student to undertake a Bachelor of Civil Engineering. Valued at $8,500 for four years, the scholarship is financially supported by each Council in the Alliance. Qualified engineers are especially difficult to attract to rural regions such as Wellington- Blayney- Cabonne, but are essential for the development of the area. Professor Parker will outline the benefits of the program at a reception for Council executives, industry leaders, local members of parliament, principals and careers advisors.
