Science students scooped the pool at the 2004 Connector Business Planning Competition, taking out first and equal second place. Run by MBA students from the Australian Graduate School of Management, the competition tests entrepreneurial skills crucial for the marketing and commercialisation of new ideas. The first and second placegetters from science were BSc/ Diploma in Innovation Management students taking the 'Professional Issues in Biotechnology' course (BIOT3091). BSc/ Dip in Innovation Management students have taken out seven of nine winning places over the past three years of competition, winning $30,000 in cash and prizes. This year, first place went to Disha Miglani, Samantha Keirs and Helen McGuire. Their business plan was written for 'Protigene P/L', a spin off 'Nucleics', formed to house the intellectual property for Z-Tag, a novel protein purification technology.
