MEDIA, NEWS & EVENTSUNSW award for Jimmy Koh02 November 2004 28 October 2004, Singapore: At a function held for University of New South Wales alumni to celebrate the launch of UNSW Asia in Singapore, the founder of the Singapore Chapter of the UNSW Alumni Association, Mr Jimmy Koh PBM, BE '64, was presented with the 2004 International Alumni Award for services to the community at large. "Mr Koh is a very successful UNSW graduate and outstanding supporter of the University," UNSW Vice-Chancellor Professor Mark Wainwright said. "He will be a leading light in promoting UNSW Asia in Singapore." The launch was attended by many prominent alumni from Singapore and the region, a senior delegation from UNSW in Sydney, the Australian High Commissioner, Mr Gary Quinlan, the Managing Director of the Economic Development Board, Mr Ko Kheng Hwa and senior representatives from Singapore's universities and polytechnics. UNSW Alumni Association 2004 International Alumni Award citation for Mr Jimmy Koh PBM, BE '64, Managing Director, Antara Koh: "Jimmy Koh's boundless energy, enthusiasm and support for his profession (engineering and construction), his country (Singapore), and his alma mater (UNSW), have resulted in significant and lasting benefits for all three. The value Jimmy derived from his University experience meant he was unstinting in promoting UNSW at every opportunity, in founding the Alumni Association Singapore Chapter and in building it into a strong and dynamic network that will prosper further with the new UNSW campus initiative in Singapore. When he was president of the Singapore Contractors Association he relentlessly promoted professionalism, leading to an improved and competitive construction industry. Jimmy's firm has completed projects in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Bangladesh and India. With his Australian education and original Chinese cultural background, along with his exposure to the international business community, Jimmy has become a global citizen indeed. Jimmy's business leadership, vision and creativity, and his personal qualities of integrity and passion for doing what he believes is right place him firmly in the highest echelons of the communities to which he gives so much."
