MEDIA, NEWS & EVENTSWhere art and architecture meet29 October 2004
Award-winning architect and UNSW graduate Sam Marshall will deliver a free public lecture titled Designing and Display at the College of Fine Arts this Tuesday (2 November). In 2000, Marshall won the highest architecture award for housing in NSW, the RAIA Wilkinson Award, for his warehouse conversion in Darlinghurst. He was also awarded the RAIA President's Award for recycled buildings and an RAIA Conservation Award for the project. He has also won the Premier's Award for an exhibition at the Museum of Sydney and more recently the Dulux Colour Award for residential work. Marshall's work shows a consistent respect for heritage, context and environmental concerns. His work has been mainly residential but more recently includes numerous art gallery fit outs. Notable completed works include a prototype caravan for the MCA, the Dinosaur Designs shop in New York, the Syme Dodson Gallery, Object Gallery and the Darren Knight Gallery in Waterloo. This is the final event for 2004 in COFA's pubic lecture series on current issues in art and design. The program is co-ordinated by Associate Professor Joanna Mendelssohn of the School of Art History and Theory.
