MEDIA, NEWS & EVENTSAHRC hosts seminar on UK anti-terrorism measures08 November 2005
The head of the UK's pre-eminent, independent human rights and law reform organisation will speak at a seminar hosted by The Australian Human Rights Centre at UNSW, the Public Interest Advocacy Centre and the Public Interest Law Clearing House. Roger Smith, Executive Director of JUSTICE, United Kingdom, will cover the debate in England about the impact of anti-terrorism measures on human rights and the role of the UK Human Rights Act in mediating the British government's commitment to national security. JUSTICE is the British chapter of the International Commission of Jurists. Prior to joining JUSTICE, Roger was Director of Legal Education and Training at the UK Law Society; Director of the Legal Action Group; solicitor to the Child Poverty Action Group and Director of West Hampstead Community Law Centre. He is an Honorary Professor at the University of Kent.
