A space frequently travelled by staff and students, the University Mall, will be transformed after sunset this week as the School of Media, Film and Theatre present their site-specific performance At night it’s just dark.

“Site-specific performances are designed to work with a particular physical space,” says director Clare Grant, a lecturer in performance in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. “We’ve worked with the architecture to devise a performance that accommodates both the incidental audience, the passer-by, and the audience specifically there to see the performance.”

Tickets in the form of a ‘show bag’ can be purchased prior to the performance. The bags contain various objects that will assist audience members to get involved in the performance.

At night it’s just dark will surprise audiences with the unexpected; encourage them to stop, look and listen in a place that they would normally pass through on their way to somewhere else,” says Grant.
