UN address on the environment

A bold new vision for city life will be the topic of a United Nations public lecture on the environment to be held at the University of New South Wales.
The Asia Pacific Regional Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, Surendra Shrestha, will be the keynote speaker at the lecture on sustainable development hosted by UNSW’s Kensington Group.
He will be joined by Federal MP Malcolm Turnbull who will be discussing the Sustainable Cities report launched recently by the House of Representatives Environment Committee. ABC broadcaster Robin Williams will be master of ceremonies.
What does it take to change people’s behaviour? We already see the signs of global warming yet are we making the requisite cuts to greenhouse gases? We’re already paying dearly at the petrol pump but are we leaving our cars behind? What is government’s role? What is our role as individuals?
“Surendra Shretha is an inspiring speaker who brings a global perspective to a topic critical to our future,” said Kensington Group chairman Professor Deo Prasad. “Australia is one of the most urbanised countries in the world and our cities face enormous challenges, with water shortages, transport congestion and high-energy demands.”
