Chief of the Defence Force launches UNSW Law Journal

Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston AO AFC, Chief of the Defence Force, has launched the latest issue of the UNSW Law Journal, which contains the first co-ordinated academic responses to the Senate Report into Military Justice, as well as rigorous debate on the Federal Government's controversial call-out powers and other military law issues.

The publication brings together a range of perspectives by lawyers and academics on Australian military law. Authors include:

"Military law and justice has been a topic of recent public interest, and this publication serves to provide insightful commentary to assist with its development in Australia," Journal editor Daniel Mendoza-Jones said. "With significant reforms expected after the Senate Report into Military Justice this year, the discussions are both topical and timely."

Other issues examined in this edition include alternative dispute resolution in the military context, the impact of the Crimes at Sea Act on ADF operations, legal issues surrounding the International Force in East Timor, constitutional questions, and the rule of law in the Great War.

This Thematic Issue was launched on Friday night (21 October) at Allens Arthur Robinson by Air Chief Marshal Houston.

The UNSW Law Journal is a refereed publication and one of the most widely cited legal reviews in Australia. It is also the only entirely student-run publication of its kind. Journal sponsors are Allens Arthur Robinson, Mallesons Stephen Jaques and Freehills.
