Dealing with America: book launch

20th September 2005

Book cover
Former senior UN staff member and Australian MP John Langmore will launch his new book Dealing with America: The UN, the US and Australia at UNSW this Thursday.

The book examines whether the Howard Government’s acquiescence to the policies of the Bush Administration is really in Australia’s best interests.

Langmore writes that the UN is at a defining moment, as crucial as when it was founded in 1945. He questions whether the UN can operate successfully in the post-Iraq war environment in which one power, the USA, seeks unilateral dominance.

The former Director of the United Nations Division for Social Policy and Development and President of the UN Association of Australia is currently a Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne. He will deliver a speech at the launch and sign copies of the book.

Dealing with America: The UN, the US and Australia is the latest publication in the UNSW Press Briefing series. This is a collection of short topical books exploring social political and cultural issues in contemporary Australia, published in association with Australian Policy Online.
