Deputy Presidents appointed for UNSW Asia

6 March 2006, Sydney: The University of New South Wales announced today the appointment of two of its Deputy Presidents for UNSW Asia in Singapore.
Professor Chan Yoke Kai has been appointed Deputy President (Resources) and Professor Bruce Milthorpe has been appointed Deputy President (Academic).
Professor Chan is currently the President and Chief Operating Officer of AEC Education Group in Singapore. He also teaches in the Faculty of Nanyang Business School at Nanyang Technological University.
In his role as Deputy-President (Resources) Professor Chan will be responsible for corporate strategies and policies, and the management of UNSW Asia’s financial, information and physical infrastructure. He will commence his role in April.

Professor Bruce Milthorpe is currently the Head of UNSW’s Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering. In his role as Deputy-President (Academic) he is responsible for academic and staffing policies, and the delivery of UNSW Asia’s teaching programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He will relocate to Singapore in July.
“Both of these appointments are key milestones in the development of UNSW Asia,” says Professor Greg Whittred, President of UNSW Asia. “Professor Chan has extensive experience in academic and management roles in Singapore, and Professor Milthorpe’s international recognition in the field of biomedical engineering, and his experience on UNSW’s Academic Board and with the National Tertiary Education Union will be invaluable in developing and staffing UNSW Asia’s academic programs.”
The development of the senior management team for UNSW Asia has also seen the appointment of Ms Corinne Green as overall Project Director and Ms Maria Spies as Director of Business and Process Improvement. The announcement of Deputy President (Research) is expected to be made shortly.
