The first cohort of students to enrol in UNSW's Foundation Year program in Singapore graduated last Friday. In the lead up to the opening of UNSW Asia in 2007, the University commenced its highly successful Foundation Year program in Singapore on Monday 13 February, 2006. The first 28 students drawn from Singapore and the region graduated with their UNSW Foundation Year Certificate in preparation for beginning degree studies at UNSW Asia in March next year. A second intake of students commenced their Studies in July 2006 and will graduate in June 2007. The UNSW Foundation Year Asia is an accredited program of the University of New South Wales and is currently being delivered at the temporary Temasek Polytechnic campus in Singapore. Professor Greg Whittred, President of UNSW Asia, delivered the graduation address to the students at the ceremony on 17 November 2006. The UNSW Foundation Year Asia is a 40-week pre-university course and follows the same syllabus as the UNSW Foundation Year program in Sydney. Students are prepared for undergraduate study at UNSW Asia (and UNSW in Sydney) with the program covering both relevant discipline-specific courses and an academic English-language course. On enrolment in the Foundation Year students receive a Provisional Offer for UNSW Asia entry and successful students are guaranteed a place in their chosen degree.
